Nokia Android Phones Sold More Than Google Pixels

It has been reported that HMD's Nokia-branded Android phones beat Google, HTC, OnePlus, Sony, Lenovo and other manufacturers in sales over the holidays. According to TechRadar, HMD sold 4.4 million Nokia branded phones in the 4th quarter last year. Although Nokia’s  sales figures seems impressive compared to their rivals, it’s still at the bottom end of the smartphone market being 11th in terms of world marketshare. So it still has a lot of work to do to catch up to the likes of Huawei, Samsung, or even Apple. However, if the HMD branded handsets continues with its current pace after a year then maybe the sales could eclipse the 10.5 million Nokia Lumia devices that were sold during  the fourth quarter of 2014 at the height of the Windows Phone era.

Google Chrome Now Clean Up Long, Complicated URLs When You Share

Google made a significant improvement on its latest version of Chrome browser on mobile. The company made it possible for its web browser to clean up messy URLs. Whenever you want to share a long, complicated web address from your phone with your buddies, Chrome will cut off unnecessary info from the end of the address. This creates a more refined link address that doesn't look too clumsy and cluttered. You can get this new URL feature through the Chrome Share menu at the top of your browser screen.

How To Easily Get Rid Of Unwanted Bloatware

If you just acquired a new smartphone, chances are that it comes with its own applications have been preinstalled. These are commonly known as “Bloatware” but I prefer to call them “Junkware” because most of them can be useless and annoying. Not only do they just waste storage space, but they tend to run in the background even though they are not in use, thus burning data and battery life. And the most infuriating thing about them is that they cannot be deleted or removed from the phone. They’ve just been shoved down our throats by the phone’s manufacturers and even Google. However, there’s a way to limit their power over your device to stop them from hogging your data and memory – Disable them. How can you do that? How to disable bloatwares STEP 1 Head over to your phone’s Settings and scroll down to Apps and tap on it. STEP 2 At the apps settings you will see all the apps on your phone in ascending or descending order. Select the apps you are definitely sure is a bloatware

Google Brings Gmail Go App To Android Phones With Low Memory

Image
Google has released a lightweight version of their email client app called Gmail Go. The app is available exclusively for entry-level devices that runs on Android Go, the lighter version of the Android Oreo. The Android Go was made available to OEMs with the release of Android 8.1 in December 2017. It has a lower-memory footprints and system requirements to make it easy to run apps on cheaper Android devices. Gmail Go was designed for low-memory smartphones with between 512 MB and 1 GB of RAM and it has the same features as the standard Gmail app. Like with the standard version, Gmail Go has categorized inboxes, 15 GB of cloud storage, spam filtering, and multiple account support. The only major difference is the install size. Gmail Go only has a 9.51 MB download size and a 25 MB on-device size, while the standard version has a 20.66 MB download size and 47 MB on-device size. Gmail Go may not seem to be an ideal choice for you if you are using a high-end smartphone since y

Facebook Brings Messenger kids App To Android

Image
Last December, Facebook launched a new chat app called Messenger Kids app on iOS. Now the app has now been brought to Android. Messenger Kids is exclusively made for younger children (ages 6 to 12) as a way for them to safely communicate with friends and family. The app includes features like video chat, drawing tools, stickers and more. Parents have strict control over who their kids interact with over the app using their own regular Facebook app, and kids are only able to communicate with people on their parental-approved list. Facebook believes this is much safer than letting kids use other chat platforms that provide little oversight and are harder to monitor and lock down. However, the Messenger Kids app has already raised eyebrows in some quarters. Some child development experts are calling on Facebook shut down the app. They are worried that the app could affect kids learning and social development since they will be spending more time glued to their handsets than on f

Android Nougat Is Now Officially The Most-used Version Of Android

Image
Android 7.0 Nougat has been officially reported to be the most-used version of the Android mobile operating system. According to an update on Google’s developer portal, Nougat is running on 28.5 percent of devices (across both versions 7.0 and 7.1). This result narrowly edges out Android 6.0 Marshmallow to second place. Marshmallow have been holding a commanding lead in the number of devices running Android for quite some time, now it stands at 28.1 percent. As for Google’s newest Android OS, 8.0 Oreo that was released last year, just 1 1 percent of Android devices currently runs the update, leaving it in a distant sixth place. Still that's an improvement of last month when it was sitting at 0.7 percent. A major problem that Android has been dealing with is the fragmentation of devices which has been slowing down the distribution of Android updates. For Android Nougat to be making it to the top now after over a year and a half it was released clearly shows how serious this

Android Oreo Finally Hit 1% On The Distribution Chart

Image
Like Nougat before it, Android Oreo has basically taken half a year to make it to 1% mark on the number of devices running it. Last month, Oreo was just 0.7% in the distribution chart, now it is at 1.1%. In the same chart, Nougat is shown to have passed Marshmallow to become the most widely used Android version. Below are the changes that have been made in the Android distribution chart since the last update. Android 8.0/8.1 Oreo - 1.1 percent (up from 0.7) Android 7.0/7.1 Nougat - 28.5 percent (up from 26.3%) Android 6.0 Marshmallow - 28.1 percent (down from 28.6%) Android 5.0/5.1 Lollipop - 24.6 percent (down from 25.1%) Android 4.4 KitKat - 12.0 percent (down from 12.8%) Android 4.1/4.2/4.3 Jelly Bean - 5.0 percent (down from 5.3%) Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich - 0.4 percent Android 2.3 Gingerbread - 0.3 percent Since it took more than a year for Nougat to get the crown, we can expect that the latest version of Android will be no different.

Nintendo’s Mario Kart Is Coming To Smartphones Later This Year

Image
Nintendo announced that they're planning to bring Mario Kart to smartphones. The all-new racing game, dubbed Mario Kart Tour, have been slated for release on Android and iOS sometime between April 2018 before March 2019. The Kyoto-based company made the announcement on Twitter saying: ‘A new mobile application is now in development: Mario Kart Tour! Releasing in the fiscal year ending in March 2019.’ Although, there’s no word now if this mobile version of Mario Kart will be free-to-play, we can assume that players will somewhat have to pay to fully enjoy the game. This assumption is based on the fact that the last Super Mario mobile game charged players ($9.99) in order to unlock all of its content. Mario is arguably one of the most popular and the most successful franchise in the history of video games. And Mario Kart Tour is the latest in the line of this classic. The game sees players race on gravity-defying tracks as their favourite characters from Nintendo’s back-

Google Removes More Than 700,000 Bad Apps From Play Store In 2017

Image
It has been reported that Google took down over 700,000 bad Androidid apps from Play Store in 2017, which is a 70 percent increase in total removal in 2016. Google has for years been working hard towards preventing malicious apps from reaching Android users by creating numerous safeguards. And it seems the efforts are beginning to pay off. In a blog post, Google Play product manager Andrew Ahn has this to say: “Not only did we remove more bad apps, we were able to identify and act against them earlier,” He added that “99 percent of apps with abusive contents were identified and rejected before anyone could install them.” Google success in detecting and restricting bad apps has been due to their “new machine learning models and techniques.” These has played a key role in detecting abuse from likes of Copycat apps, created to impersonate popular apps in order to deceive users. Google removed thousands of these copycat apps last year. Google said they kept “tens of thousa

9Mobile Data Plans For February 2018 - With Subscriptions And Codes

Image
Welcome again! We will be reviewing 9Mobile data plans for this month. Last year we saw a lot of situations going on in 9Mobile Telecoms, previously known as Etisalat. Because of bad debts, they lost their main investors and then had to change their name. Now they are in the brink of being sold.  Nevertheless, they've done a great job in providing good network. In fact they have one of the most stable and fast network connection in the country. But unfortunately, they are also known for their unconventional high pricing of Data Plans, and their data tends to wind up quickly which have been a major turn off for many Nigerians. Still again I admit that since they changed their name, they've done a good job in providing good Internet network that is even better than the mighty Mtn. If you want to enjoy fast network connection, then I suggest that you consider carefully this article on 9mobile data plans for February as they presently have one of the most reliabl

Posted by Chris Iteh MTN NIigeria is without a doubt the biggest mobile communication and the one with the widest coverage in the country, or as their tagline goes “Everywhere You Go”. So you can expect their network to be the best in the country. However, MTN plans can be somewhat stiff in price, and this month plans are no different.
