Facebook Plan to Merge Messenger, WhatsApp and Instagram Into One

Image
Social media giant Facebook recently announced plans to merge Messenger with its other messaging app WhatsApp and photo-sharing platform Instagram in order to create "the best messaging experiences" for the billions of users around the world who use the apps. Although, the three apps will still remain stand-alone apps, they will be linked so that messages can travel between the different services. This means that a Facebook user could communicate directly with someone who only has a WhatsApp account, which is impossible right now. The plan was first reported in the New York Times which also reported that it was a personal project of Facebook founder Mark Zuckerberg. According to a spokesperson for Facebook, the company is "working on making more of our messaging products end-to-end encrypted and considering ways to make it easier to reach friends and family across networks." However, the planned integration of the apps didn't go down well with WhatsAp

WhatsApp Now Limits the Sending of Text Messages to Just Five Recipients in an Effort to Fight Fake News

Image
In an effort to combat the flow of viral false information, Facebook-owned messenging platform, WhatsApp, is globally limiting the sending of text messages to just five recipients. WhatsApp, which has around 1.5 billion users, has been trying to find ways to stop misuse of its app following global concern after disinformation and rumours known as fake news, circulated in the platform led to mob violence in several countries especially India, Brazil, Pakistan and Mexico. So in a bid to fight such ‘misinformation and rumours’, the company said that it is “imposing a limit of five messages all over the world”. Previously, a WhatsApp user could forward a message to 20 individuals or groups. However, the messages in the app are private and encrypted which can be easily shared to groups of hundreds of users with lesser ways for independent experts or even the platform itself to see where the messages are originating from. As a result of the closed nature of the app, it becomes harder

Microsoft Recommends Switching to Android or iOS As It Prepares to Kill Off Windows Phones

Image
Last year, Microsoft announced that it will be a killing off Windows phones. Now as the company prepares to fulfill its promise, it is recommending Windows phone owners to switch to Android or iPhone. When Microsoft first announced plans bring Windows on mobile, it hoped to beat Android, iOS and blackberry. In an effort to boost its plan, the company acquired Nokia's mobile unit so that it could build Windows Phone products internally. But things didn't go as planned as there were low demand for the product coupled with the lack of interest among mobile consumers. So giving up and admitting defeat, the company is now urging anyone who still uses its Windows 10 mobile platform to switch over to an Android device or iPhone and use its range of applications on either platforms instead as it will cease to support the OS by the end of the year. This recommendation was first spotted in the Windows 10 Mobile support page by Thurrott , a site that covers Microsoft. Accordin

Twitter Now Allows the Viewing of Tweets in Chronological Order

Image
Twitter has just started rolling out its latest feature that will change how we view our tweets. The micro-blogging platform released a chronological timeline for Android users that would enable them to view their main tweets timeline in reverse chronological order, instead of relying on the algorithmic timeline. The new feature was first introduced in December last year on Apple iOS with plans to bring it to Android soon. Now it is being rolled out to Android users. Android users who download the latest Twitter app update can view the chronological timeline feature by tapping on the start icon on the top right of the Home page, and from there, switch to view the latest tweets. Or if they prefer to see the “best” tweets based on the algorithm, they can switch back to seeing the top tweets from the same icon. Algorithmic timelines are often terrible to tell the truth, which is why the introduction of the new timeline feature is a welcome change.

The Device Health Services update now provides users with the option to reset Adaptive Brightness to factory default settings without having to clear all storage, which includes things like battery statistics.
