Android Nougat Is Now Officially The Most-used Version Of Android

Android 7.0 Nougat has been officially reported to be the most-used version of the Android mobile operating system.

According to an update on Google’s developer portal, Nougat is running on 28.5 percent of devices (across both versions 7.0 and 7.1). This result narrowly edges out Android 6.0 Marshmallow to second place. Marshmallow have been holding a commanding lead in the number of devices running Android for quite some time, now it stands at 28.1 percent.

As for Google’s newest Android OS, 8.0 Oreo that was released last year, just 1 1 percent of Android devices currently runs the update, leaving it in a distant sixth place. Still that's an improvement of last month when it was sitting at 0.7 percent.

A major problem that Android has been dealing with is the fragmentation of devices which has been slowing down the distribution of Android updates. For Android Nougat to be making it to the top now after over a year and a half it was released clearly shows how serious this is. Even rival OS Apple iOS is already far ahead with its latest iOS 11 update running on 65 percent of devices.
