Nintendo’s Mario Kart Is Coming To Smartphones Later This Year

Nintendo announced that they're planning to bring Mario Kart to smartphones. The all-new racing game, dubbed Mario Kart Tour, have been slated for release on Android and iOS sometime between April 2018 before March 2019.

The Kyoto-based company made the announcement on Twitter saying:

‘A new mobile application is now in development: Mario Kart Tour! Releasing in the fiscal year ending in March 2019.’

Although, there’s no word now if this mobile version of Mario Kart will be free-to-play, we can assume that players will somewhat have to pay to fully enjoy the game. This assumption is based on the fact that the last Super Mario mobile game charged players ($9.99) in order to unlock all of its content.

Mario is arguably one of the most popular and the most successful franchise in the history of video games. And Mario Kart Tour is the latest in the line of this classic. The game sees players race on gravity-defying tracks as their favourite characters from Nintendo’s back-catalogue such as Mario, Luigi, Donkey Kong, Link, Yoshi and Princess Peach.

Mario Kart Tour, however, is not the first Mario game to be released on mobile handsets. In October 2017, Nintendo launched Super Mario Run to mobile after the successful release of the video game console version in December 2016. The mobile version set download records across the globe when it launched, with 40 million downloads in just four days - becoming the fastest game to reach the milestone in App Store history, according to Apple that time.

Moreover, it seems that Nintendo is planning on bringing more of their iconic games to smartphones and tablets for a report by The Wall Street journal reveals that video game company is quietly working on a mobile version of Legend Of Zelda adventure.

This definitely will be good news for players who love these games and have been yearning for them.
