Chrome OS Settings and Shortcuts Apps to Appear in the Launcher

With Google Chrome OS devices soon to replace Android tablets, it should come as no surprise that there will be changes to be made. Already a number changes have been done on the OS, and a new one was just announced. Chrome pioneer and Googler, François Beaufort, announced that Chrome OS Settings and Shortcuts apps will be appearing in the launcher alongside Android apps. Previously, the Settings app used to be accessed via the vertical 3-dot menu in the corner of most windows, or the avatar and icon-speckled menu to be bottom right. But since Android apps arrived on Chromebooks, the Settings menu has been made to look more like an Android, and this latest change only serve to prove it.

Google to Fix Android Messaging with its New Chat Messaging Service

It has been reported that Google is aiming to fix Android’s text messaging woes. But unlike previous attempts, the Android makers will focusing on the in-built app and building out features directly into it rather than launching an entirely different service altogether. The new text messaging initiative will be called Chat. Chat will make use of Rich Communication Services (RCS), which will upgrade the texting experience by including features we are used to in other text messaging apps, such as, read receipts, support for photos and videos, and typing indicators. However, for the Chat feature to take off, Google would need the support of all Smartphone companies and network carriers to get RCS as the default texting method on Android devices. Currently, 11 smartphone manufacturers and 55 carriers around the world are supporting this feature. Samsung and Huawei plans on joining in the initiative. MTN Partners with Sony Entertainment to Bring Foreign Music to Music+

MTN Network just added another feather to its cap. The mobile network company signed a landmark deal with Sony Music Entertainment to make Music+, Africa digital music service, completely international. With this partnership, MTN subscribers on the platform can now stream over three million international song catalogues from A-list artistes like Chris Brown, Jay-z, Beyonce, DJ Khaled, Rihanna, Chris Brown, BeyoncĂ©, Justin Bieber, Selena Gomez etc. Richard Iweanoge, MTN’s GM, Brands and Communications, notes that the partnership with Sony will open a whole world of opportunities that will make MTN Music+ the front runner of digital music and the largest music distributor in Africa. Flickr has been Bought by SmugMug

Reports has surfaced that popular photo-sharing service, Flickr, has been bought by SmugMug, another photo-sharing service.  T hough it is not clear how much money SmugMug spent on Flickr, the company  plans to "[breath] new life" into Flickr by pouring in the necessary resources and focus. SmugMug CEO Don MacAskill describes Flickr an "an amazing community, full of some of the world's most passionate photographers...a fantastic product and a beloved brand, supplying tens of billions of photos to hundreds of millions of people around the world...and is core to the entire fabric of the Internet." Gmail New Design may Come with Self-Destructing Emails

Not long ago, Google sent out word on a major redesign coming soon to Gmail web interface. Now it has been reported that Google will be adding a new self-destructing email features in the upcoming Gmail update. The new feature will be called “Confidential Mode”. Confidential mode will make it possible for users to set the time for which their emails are to expire. So with this new feature, you will be able send emails that are set to expire after one week, one month, or other time periods of your choosing, even years. This means that you not need to worry about emails hovering are you for long. It also means that recipients won’t be able to download, forward or print those emails after a certain time period.
