Gmail New Design may Come with Self-Destructing Emails

Not long ago, Google sent out word on a major redesign coming soon to Gmail web interface. Now it has been reported that Google will be adding a new self-destructing email features in the upcoming Gmail update. The new feature will be called “Confidential Mode”.

Confidential mode will make it possible for users to set the time for which their emails are to expire. So with this new feature, you will be able send emails that are set to expire after one week, one month, or other time periods of your choosing, even years. This means that you not need to worry about emails hovering are you for long. It also means that recipients won’t be able to download, forward or print those emails after a certain time period. They also won’t be able to copy and paste the email’s content.

Gmail confidential mode will also include an option in which users can make recipients type in a passcode before reading emails. The passcode can be sent to the recipient’s phone via a text message.

It is still unclear if this new feature will work with emails sent to non-Gmail users, but we hope to learn more in the coming weeks, ahead of the planned Gmail redesign launch.
