Google Unveils Android Oreo 8.1

Finally, the new and improved Android operating system is now live, and Google's own phones will be the first beneficiaries.

Google just recently unveiled the new Android Oreo 8.1 along with a ton of new developer tools. The most important of these tools is the Neural Networks API, which will help developers incorporate machine learning into their apps. With the new API, developers can train apps to do things like classify images, predict user behavior, and respond to queries.

There are also some smaller changes, such as the display of the battery levels of connected Bluetooth devices on the Bluetooth settings, and several redesigned emoji.

Android 8.1 will start rolling out to Pixel and any recent Nexus devices. That specifically includes the Pixel 2, Pixel 2 XL, Pixel, Pixel XL, Pixel C, Nexus 5X, or Nexus 6P.

But the biggest beneficiaries of the new update could be the cheap smartphones, as Google has introduced a lightweight version of the Android Oreo (Go edition), a data-saving, storage-saving Android operating system optimized for low-end devices.
This lightweight version of Oreo can work on any device with a memory as low as 512MB with features that will cause apps to load up to 15% faster and could save over 600MB of data each year, while still offering all the same security features as the Android 8.1.

If you’re not rocking a Google device right now then you might be waiting a while longer before any of these updates comes your way, but Pixel and Nexus users can expect to receive the new version any time now.
