How To Turn Your Smartphone Into An Internet Modem For Your PC (Tethering) Using PdaNet

Since discovering how easy it is to browse the web on the phone for free with the help of such VPN apps like Tweakware, many people have been wondering if they would be able to share their phone free internet with their PC.

If you are one of those people, then you should be happy to know that you can really turn your smartphone into an internet modem for your PC and Tablet.

Yes, you can share your smartphone internet connection with your desktop device using a free app called PdaNet+ (available for Android, iPhone, BlackBerry, and other mobile platforms).

Connecting your phone to a computer in order to share internet is what is commonly known as Tethering. With this ability, you'll be able to work online on your computer on the go, wherever you are as long as you have cellular data coverage (3G/4G).

About PdaNet
PdaNet is manufactured by June Fabrics Technology inc. It's Android version enables tethering via USB cable as well as over Bluetooth Dial-Up Networking (DUN).
Although you can use PdaNet for free, it limits access to secure websites (sites that require login) after the 14 day trial period ends unless you upgrade to the paid version. You can still, however, continue using PdaNet for free.

PdaNet does not require any extra tether plan (mobile hotspot plan) from your mobile network carrier. Nor do you need to root your Android phone in order to use it. There's even an option to Hide Tether Usage. How cool is that!

How To Set Up PdaNet
Before you start, you need to first install the PdaNet on both your Android phone and your computer.

Setting Up PdaNet on PC

Step 1: Download the PdaNet Android Windows or Mac installers from makers June Fabrics on your computer through one of the provided links below.
(Alternatively, you can download the software to your phone storage and transfer it to your computer via USB. Or you can install it on your computer from your phone storage.)

Step 2: Run the PdaNet installation setup. During the installation, you'll be prompted to select your cell phone manufacturer.

You will also be required to enable USB debugging for tethering to work. Enable it on your Android phone. To do so, go to Settings > Applications > Development or Settings > More Options > Developers Mode, depending on the kind of phone you have.

Step 3: After enabling USB debugging, connect your phone to the computer to install the drivers.

Note: You may be warned by Windows Security that the publisher of the driver software can't be verified. Since this is a tried and tested software, just ignore the prompt and choose the "Install this driver software anyway."

Setting Up PdaNet on Smartphone

Step 4: Download and install PdaNet to your Android smartphone from the makers or the Android Market, preferably Google play store.

Connecting Both Devices with PdaNet

Step 5: Once the software has been installed on both your Android phone and desktop device, you can now share your phone's Internet connection with your computer using one of the two methods: Connection via USB or Connection via Bluetooth.

Connection via USB

*First connect your phone to your PC.

*Go to the PdaNet app on your smartphone and select "Activate USB Mode," then use the USB cable to connect the device to your computer.

*You'll get a pop-up window on your computer. Click on it to connect the phone to PdaNet. (You may also or alternately have to click on the PdaNet icon in your taskbar, and select "Connect Internet.")

Connection via Bluetooth

*The steps are pretty much the same here, except you only need to select the "Activate Bluetooth Mode" in the Android app and then pair your Android phone with your PC via Bluetooth rather than via the USB cable.

After you've done one of the 2 methods, you should then see the "Connected!" notification on your computer.

So there you have it!

The process is complete and your computer is now connected to the internet through your Android's data connection. You can freely surf the web without needing to pay any extra charge.

If you have any questions, feel free to ask.
Like this post, why don't you share it with your pals.
