For years, one of the most biggest drawback of mobile games, compared to video-games and handheld consoles, is that you have to rely on touchscreen control to play most of your games. Fortunately, it's now possible to use controllers on mobile devices as you would on a video game console or a Nintendo Switch.
Many controllers are now being designed work with mobile phones, and most Android devices, especially Android 10 and above, have controller input support.
The best controller among the pack right now is the DualShock gamepad developed by Sony for their PlayStation console. To control your favourite game, you will need the DualShock 4 controller to connect to your device using Bluetooth. Of course, not all games have built-in controller-support. But with those that are compatible, you can enjoy your favourite games with DualShock 4.
In this post, you will be shown how you can use your PS4 controller on your Android device.
How To Connect PS4 Controller To Android Devices
First, you need to enable Bluetooth on your phone to connect with your DualShock 4. Moreover, your phone should be running on Android 10 or later in order to smoother connection, otherwise you would have to get a new phone. Or you can just use a cable connection. For this, you'll need your DualShock 4 charging cable (USB to micro-USB) and an adapter that will let you plug the USB end into your phone.
To enable Bluetooth and connect DualShock 4 on your phone:
- Go to Settings.
- Select Connected devices or Device connection depending on the type of phone.
- Open the Bluetooth menu, turn on the Bluetooth. If, however, you have a different device, just tap Pair new device.
- Now leave your phone in scan mode.
- After enabling Bluetooth, is time to sync your controller. To pair your Android device with your controller, press and hold your PS4 Control button and the Share button at the same time for a few seconds. Don't release the buttons until the LED light at the back of the device starts blinking to show that it's in pairing mode.
- Once the DualShock is on pairing mode, go back to your phone, look under the list of Available devices. Your PS4 controller will appear as Wireless controller in the list. Select it.
- Tap OK after a confirmation pop up or Pair to connect. Once it is paired, the LED light on the back of your controller will stop blinking and turn blue. That's all!
Though the DualShock 4 is one of the best gamepad around, there are other controllers out there that can also work well on Android devices, such as, the Xbox One Controller or SteelSeries Stratus Duo.
With a controller, you don't have to keep rubbing your phone screen and have it dirty with sweat and grime. Moreover, your hands and posture will feel more free and comfortable as you play your favourite controller-compatible games.
