How To Keep Android Apps From Running In The Background Of Your Phone

There are times when you are using an app and it starts acting sluggishly. If it is a browser you are using, a page will be taking time to open or a file you are trying to download would be running too slow. If it is a game you are playing, it may hang midway or stop altogether.

A number of things can be responsible for these occurrence but one of the most biggest culprit are apps running in the background.

Applications make use of your phone memory or RAM in order to run properly. If there are two or more apps opened and running at the same time, they will be competing for the use of the phone memory and thus slowing down the phone process. This may not be a problem if you have about 6GB RAM.

To stop such apps from eating up your phone memory, you need to force stop the apps running in the background.

How can you do that?

Below is a simple step by step method you should try.

Step 1
Open your phone Settings by tapping the icon on your Apps menu. Or, you can slide down the notification bar from the top of your screen, and tap the icon in the upper-right corner.

Step 2
When the Settings opens, scroll down and tap Apps or Applications depending on your version of Android phone. It will list all of your installed apps.

Step 3
The apps on the screen are listed under Downloaded which means that they are all the ones you've downloaded and installed on your phone. Find and tap the app you want to stop. This will take you to the app's info page.

Step 4
Tap the Force Stop button. A new window will pop-up for you to confirm your action.

Step 5
Tap Force stop or OK in the confirmation pop-up. This will stop and close the selected app.

So that's it! Although, doing this can be tiresome and time-consuming, it will at least give your phone or whatever you are doing with it a space for it to breathe easily.

If you want an app that would automatically close down background apps, you can try Greenify or Clean Master which you can find on play store.
