WhatsApp Has Now Added Fingerprint Unlock Feature

WhatsApp is the most popular app in the world, yet it can often be slow to add new features that are popular. Few months after iOS received fingerprint unlocking for its WhatsApp, the feature is now officially available on the Android version in the latest stable build 2.19.221.

Fingerprint unlock is an extra security measure to protect your account. The feature require users to provide a fingerprint before they can be granted access to an app. So if by chance someone were to access your phone, they would not be able to open the app. Moreover, WhatsApp fingerprint unlock uses the same fingerprint you use to unlock your phone.

When you update your WhatsApp with the latest version, open it and navigate to the app’s settings. Click on Account, and then Privacy. Here you will see WhatsApp’s new fingerprint lock option. If you don't see it, you could try deleting and reinstalling the app. But do make sure you first back up your chats!

Once you have the option, toggle the setting. You can set WhatsApp to automatically lock as soon as you close it or wait for after 1 minute, or after 30 minutes. This is handy if you don’t want to be scanning your fingerprint every single time you open the app.

There is also the option to hide messages and other notifications content to prevent it from displaying users information when you lock down the app.

With the introduction of fingerprint unlocking, WhatsApp has given users further reasons to be chosen over their rivals. The new feature is a welcome security measure that can further protect your conversations from prying eyes.
