Huawei's Next Flagship Smartphones Won't Come With Google Apps

In less than a few weeks, Huawei will be launching its next flagship smartphone, but it will not be coming with Google's popular apps, such as, YouTube and Play Store apps. This would mean that the upcoming Huawei Mate 30 Pro would not have access to the Google Play Store.

Following the US trade ban on the Chinese smartphone giant in May, Google withdrew its Android license which would deny Huawei's devices access to Android ecosystem.

Although, the Android operating system is open-source software that enables manufacturers to offer it on their mobile devices, companies still need to have an agreement with Google to include its popular apps such as Play Store, Maps and YouTube.

In a statement, Huawei said it "will continue to use the Android OS and ecosystem if the US government allows it to do so."

"Anyone who has already bought, or is about to buy a Huawei smartphone, can continue to access the world of apps as they have always done. All devices continue to be covered by our manufacturer's warranty and will receive full service support accordingly", the company said.

Without access to Android popular apps, Huawei's devices will look less appealing to consumers and adversely affect its sales. Moreover, not having access to Play Store would deny Huawei's users access other popular apps such as Facebook, Twitter and WhatsApp. The tech firm will need to provide an alternative quickly before it starts losing customers.

Though Huawei said it will continue using Android for as long as the US government allows, it is already working on its own operating system called Harmony OS as an alternative.
