How to activate your mobile phone internet connection settings
There are two main ways you can activate your phone for internet access, the automatic method and the manual method.
To automatically obtain the internet settings for browsing, you will need to send an SMS command to the mobile network. When the network receives your message, it will send you your internet configuration settings which you are required to save to your mobile phone.
At times, some phones, such as the ones that are newly released, may not accept automatic internet settings. In such a situation, you will have to configure the internet settings manually. To do this, you will need to go to your phone settings > mobile network > access point names and input correct settings.
With that in mind, let's now consider the methods you need to follow to activate the internet connection settings of MTN, Glo, Airtel and 9Mobile on your mobile phone.
MTN MOBILE INTERNET SETTINGS
MTN Automatic Settings
To get your 4G/3G/3.5G/GPRS internet settings, text SETTINGS to 3888. Save the internet settings which you will receive over the air.
MTN Manual Settings
To configure your MTN internet settings yourself, head to your phone settings and input using one of two the settings below depending on the type of device you have.
WEB settings for smartphones (Android/iOS)
For manual MTN APN Settings, head to your phone APN settings and input the following:
• Account Name: MTN NG
• APN: web.gprs.mtnnigeria.net
• Port: (Blank)
• Username: web
• Password: web
• Authentication Type: PAP or CHAP
WAP settings for WAP/feature phones
• Account Name: MTN WAP
• APN: web.gprs.mtnnigeria.net
• Port: 9201
• Username: web
• Password: web
GLO MOBILE INTERNET SETTINGS
Glo Automatic APN Settings
To automatically load Glo settings, SMS the following: Flat [space] [name & model of the phone] to 1234. For example, to configure Samsung Galaxy S9, simply text Flat Samsung S9 to 1234. You will be sent the settings over the air which you are expected to save on your mobile phone.
Glo Manual APN Settings
For manual Glo APN Settings, head to your phone APN settings and input the following:
• Account Name: Glo Nigeria
• Access point name (APN): gloflat
• Username: flat
• Password: flat
Airtel MOBILE INTERNET SETTINGS
Airtel Automatic APN Settings
To get your Airtel internet settings, text Internet [space] [phone make] [space] [model number] to 232. For example, to activate Tecno Y9, text Internet Tecno Y9 to 232. Save the Airtel Settings on your mobile phone when received.
Airtel Manual APN Settings
For manual Airtel APN Settings, head to your phone APN settings and input the following:
• Account Name: Airtel NG
• Access point name (APN): internet.ng.Airtel.com
• Username: internet
• Password: internet
9MOBILE MOBILE INTERNET SETTINGS
9Mobile Automatic APN Settings
For automatic 9Mobile APN Settings, just text SETTINGS to 790. The Settings will be sent to your device over the air. Save the Settings to your mobile phone.
9Mobile Manual APN Settings
For manual 9Mobile APN Settings, head to your phone APN settings and input the following:
• Account Name: 9Mobile
• APN/Access Point: etisalat or 9mobile
• Username/Login: (blank)
• Password: (blank)
• Port: 8080
