Nigerians Spends N767 Billion in 3 Months


There's no doubt that Nigerians love their mobile phones a lot and will do anything to get connected. A new investigation just showed that Nigerians are spending a lot on airtime purchase.

According to a report from Nigerian Communications Commission, Nigerians have spent a whooping N767.23bn in just 3 Months, between November 2018 and January 2019. That's amazing considering the situation in the country.

According to the NCC report there are 168.73 million active GSM subscribers on MTN, Globacom, Airtel and 9mobile networks in Nigeria
in November 2018, but the number increased to 172.63 million in December and then 173.63 million in January 2019.

The industry’s Average Revenue Per User (ARPU) provided by network operators which helped determined the estimate of airtime purchase in the country showed that consumers spent N1490.22 per month. Going by this estimate, Nigerians spent N251.44 billion on airtime in November, but that number rose by 2 per cent to reach N256.04 billion in December 2018, and about N258.74 billion in January this year.
