YouTube Bans Dangerous Pranks and Challenges From Its Site


YouTube has decided to take a tough stance on dangerous pranks and challenges within its platform. The Google-owned, video-sharing site said that it is putting a clear ban on these kinds of videos that present a risk of serious danger or death.

In an updated community guidelines for creators, the platform added a new section that focus on dangerous challenges and pranks, in which it clearly made known its position.

"YouTube is home to many beloved viral challenges and pranks, but we need to make sure what’s funny doesn’t cross the line into also being harmful or dangerous," the guideline reads.

YouTube said it'll give creators a two-month grace period, as it works to remove these pranks and challenges from the platform. In that period, creators who have posted that kind of content won't be given a strike.

Although, pranks and silly antics have been a common thread in YouTube a spate of troubling incidents, e.g the Bird Box challenge, spurred YouTube into taking action.

Often with these YouTube pranks and challenges, it's unclear if the pranks were real or make believe, but the platform hopes that people know when to draw the line.
