How to Easily Enable Dark Mode on Android Pie Smartphone

Since Google finally accepted dark mode on Android, we've been seeing a lot of more dark-based themes on selected apps from the company.

One of the main benefits of dark mode is that it saves battery power. Moreover, it reduces eye strain compared to when viewing white background screen.

Below is a simple guide on how to enable a dark mode on Android phone devices. Notably, dark mode setting should be available on every device running Android Pie.

How to enable dark mode theme on Android

1. Head to your phone Settings and scroll all the way to the bottom.

2. Tap System.

3. Tap About Phone.

4. Scroll to the bottom and rapidly tap on the Build Number until a message appears telling you that you’re now a developer.

5. Look for the night mode setting from the list of developer options and tap it.

6. Toggle the "Night Mode" option to “Always On” to have Android apply a dark theme everywhere it's available.

Alternatively, if you prefer a white theme, you can toggle it to “Always Off.” There’s also an option for “Automatic” which is supposed to change based on the time of day, but it’s not always reliable – for now.

Once you’ve enabled Android’s Night Mode, it won't apply system-wide. Instead, you will find them on several applications directly from Google.
