How to know when someone is online on WhatsApp

Step 1
Open the WhatsApp app (the green app with a white phone inside a speech bubble).

Step 2
Tap on Chats (the green icon with a white speech bubble inside) at the bottom-right corner of the screen.

Step 3
Select a contact.

Step 4
Now you can see the date and time below the contact's name at the top of the screen. The words "last seen" is the date and time the contact last logged into WhatsApp on their device. But if you see the word "online", that means they are currently online on WhatsApp.
