It's been 4 years since Google first launched Inbox for Gmail. Now the company is set to kill it off at the end of March 2019 next year and focus solely on Gmail.
Many users of the email client will be disappointed to hear the announcement for it offered up added functionality and a fresh take on Google’s dated Gmail client.
When Inbox by Gmail was first released back in October 2014, it served as a testing ground for future Gmail client with features not yet available on Gmail. But Google started adding some of these same features to Gmail. Just earlier this year, the company included features that are already in Inbox to Gmail like Smart Compose for faster email drafting, Smart Reply and viewing attachments.
Now it seems that Inbox has served its purpose which is why Google has decided that it will be retiring the app.
The transition from Inbox to Gmail may seem a bit hard for some people who are already used to Inbox, so in a blog post, Google put together a transition guide to help them easily make the move back to Gmail. The guide includes tips for how to replace the Inbox pinning, bundles, and reminders features.
"We know change is hard, so we’ve created a transition guide to help you switch from Inbox to the new Gmail with ease. All your conversations are already waiting for you in Gmail. See you there."
Just in case you are wondering, Inbox is still functional for now at least until the end of March 2019. At that time, the app will be discontinued. But we are not sure if this means it will stop working or that Google simply will stop providing updates.
