Samsung has finally released their first lightweight Android Go equipped smartphone - the Galaxy J2 Core.
As with all Android Go enabled devices, the new phone is designed for people who can't afford the higher-end smartphones or who are living in areas with poor network.
Android Go is a lighter version of the original Android operating system that is optimized for smartphones with as low as 512MB RAM and 4GB storage so that they can run in the same capacity as their higher-end counterparts. Moreover, Android Go enabled handsets takes less space and uses less data.
Google has developed lightweight versions of its core apps for Android Go that are data-friendly. These includes Google Go, Assistant Go, YouTube Go, Gboard, Chrome, Maps Go, Files Go, Gmail Go, and Google Play.

In a blog post, Junho Park, Vice President of Global Product Planning, Mobile Communications Business at Samsung has this to say about its new budget device.
“The Galaxy J2 Core offers a complete smartphone experience, incorporating some of the key features available on high-end devices with an improved battery, storage, and performance that is particularly appealing to first time owners.”
The Samsung Galaxy J2 Core will come equipped with an Exynos 7570 processor, a 1GB RAM and 8GB storage, as well as a 2600 mAh battery capacity.
It will also have a five-inch display with a 540 x 960-pixel resolution, with a camera that is 8-megapixel (MP) rear-facing and a 5MP front camera.
The J2 Core is based on the Android 8.1 Oreo and not the Android 9 Pie version of Go which will be available later this year.
Galaxy J2 Core was first launched in India and Malaysia on August 24 and will expand to other markets in the near future, hopefully soon.
