Google recently rolled out a new feature for Android Messages that would enable Android smartphone users to send and receive text messages from their laptops or desktops.
The new update brings Google’s messaging service up to the level of the likes of WhatsApp, which offers mobile and web browser services. Text, images and stickers will be supported in the web version of Android Messages.
Below you will find how you can use this new functionality to send and receive text messages from your desktop computer or laptop.
How to send and receive Android Messages from a PC
To get started with the new feature, you need to first make sure that you are running the latest version of Android Messages app on your phone.
Head over to Google Play Store on your Android device and check out for the latest updates. If your Android Messages app do require an update, then download it.
When the download is done, go online on your desktop computer or laptop and navigate to the new Android Messages website, messages.android.com.
NOTE: Be aware that Android Messages will only work on Google Chrome, Mozilla Firefox, Safari, or Microsoft Edge web browsers (but not Internet Explorer).
At the Android Messages website, you will be presented with a QR code. You'll be required to scan the code with your handset in order to establish a link between the mobile app and the web browser.
To scan the QR code, tap the three-dot icon in the top right-hand corner of the Android Messages app on your Smartphone, and hit the option marked Messages for web. This'll load a camera interface. Point the camera at the QR code on the PC screen to scan.
Once the scan completes, your smartphone will vibrate, indicating that you are now able to send messages to your computer. Your contacts and chat history will then be uploaded to the browser window. All unread messages will be shown with a red dot next to the Android Messages icon in the browser tab..
NOTE: Please do ensure that your phone is connected to the internet either through mobile data or WiFI to send messages.
You can use this method to login to Android Messages on any computer, but you will only be able to send and receive text messages from one computer at a time. This means that when you open Android Messages on a computer, your text conversations on any other computers or browser tabs will become inactive.
If you like the post, do share it with your friends and family via Facebook, Twitter, WhatsApp, Google+ or any other social sites.
