WhatsApp for Android has released a new update for its bata version (2.18.159). This new update brings a new Media visibility feature along with a new Contact shortcut.
The New Media visibility makes it possible for you to hide or show WhatsApp media content in the gallery. With this feature, you can choose whether you want your photos and videos that you've received on WhatsApp to display in your gallery or for it show only on WhatsApp.
By default, the Media visibility feature is enabled on the WhatsApp beta version. If however you choose to disable the feature altogether, your media files will not appear in your gallery, but you'll still be able to view them all directly within the WhatsApp.
To disable the feature go through the WhatsApp Settings > Data and storage usage and then turn off the Show media in gallery optiony.
It is worth mentioning here that while the downloaded WhatsApp media content will not be available in your gallery if you've disabled the Media visibility feature, the content can be accessed by going to the WhatsApp Images folder through a file manager app.
The beta version also comes with a new Contact shortcut. The shortcut is an easy and quick way to add a new contact without WhatsApp. The new shortcut can be found by pressing the new message button from the bottom right side of the Chats screen. It sits next to the New group option.
The new contact shortcut already exists on WhatsApp for iPhone, but you can experience the new features on your Android by downloading the latest WhatsApp beta version from the Google Play.
