How to Easily Save Wikipedia Pages on your Android Phone to Access Offline

Although, things today can be a bit hectic, we are still able to get some downtime. On such occasions, we would want some reading material to pass the time. What better tool for this than the Wikipedia App.

As you may have already known, Wikipedia is a popular online encyclopedia. The official app provides an optimized and streamlined experience for searching and reading Wikipedia content on mobile phones. It contains features that are not available (or not possible) in the Web version of Wikipedia. One of such is the saving of pages on your Android smartphone for later offline viewing.

Using the Wikipedia app to read and research articles offline is great for those who don't like to be distracted by constant notifications, for the app can also work on Airplane mode.

How to save Wikipedia pages for offline access

The process of saving article pages and getting back to them later for offline viewing is quite simple and straightforward.

There’s a feature at the bottom of the App's homepage called Reading List. This feature acts as a sort of bookmark of the pages you accessed. All you need to do is to search for the articles you want save and then add them to the Reading list. Pages saved to a list are made available offline by default so that you can read it later. You can have more than one reading list and categorize the pages in each list. You can turn it off, individually for each page in a reading list, if you do not want it offline.

How to search for articles

You can look for articles by tapping the "Search Wikipedia" bar at the top, and typing your search term. The app will give you a list of Wikipedia articles based on your search query. The app automatically searches articles based on their title, as well as their full text, to provide the best possible match. Once you find the article you want to store for later viewing, you then add it to the Reading list.

You can grab the latest version of the Wikipedia app on Google Play Store here. It works better on all Android devices running version 4.0.3 (Ice Cream Sandwich MR1) and higher. Although, you can still install version 4.0 and below, it will be a "frozen" version of the app, and will no longer receive updates, except for occasional critical security patches or crashing bugs.
