Are you having a nightmare with your Android storage space? The storage space of your Android device can become cluttered over time with various files you don't need which will result in your phone's underperformance and waste of space.
One way to fix this problem is by getting rid of any duplicate files, such as videos, photos and other stuff.
How to delete duplicate files
Of course, the most obvious way to delete duplicates is by doing so manually using your phone file manager app. This is best suited if you have just a few files, but if your files are large then it is recommended that you go for an app.
There are some apps on Google Play Store that can help you get rid of doppelganger files, and among the best to consider is Duplicate Files Fixer which you can get for free.
Before you start you making use of the app, it will be a good for you to first back up your device so as not to lose any precious files when an error occurs. Below are the steps you need to take in using the app.
Step 1
Download and install the Duplicate Files Fixer app from Play Store
here.
Step 2
After the installation, launch the app. There’s a quick guide on how to use the app, so check it out by tapping Let’s Go and swiping through the tips.
Step 3
When you’re done, tap Got It, Let’s Start option at the bottom.
Step 4
The app will next ask you for permission to access your photos, media, and files, which it needs in order to remove duplicates. Tap Got It and you’ll be taken to the main page.
Step 5
On the main page, you will be able to view the various types of files that Duplicate Files Fixer can scan. You can pick which of the various media (Audio, Videos, Pictures, or Documents) you want to scan, or you can just do a Full Duplicate Scan of all the media files.
Step 6
When you’ve made your choice, tap the Scan Now option at the bottom of the screen.
Step 7
You will be required again to grant the app permission to access the files, so tap Allow and the scan will begin.
Step 8
When the scan is completed, you will be shown the full list of your duplicates. Swipe left to move through the individual file types to select files you want to remove. Each duplicate is listed with the original file but only one is selected. As you make your selection, be sure to check that there are no errors during the scan.
Step 9
After making your selection, you will be presented with two choices: Delete Now or Backup Now . If you choose Backup Now you will be taken to Google Play Store where you will be shown a list of backup apps for you to consider. As stated earlier, backing up your files is a good idea if you don't want to lose any of your precious files due to errors. But since your aim is to get rid of junk files, then tap Delete Now and then confirm your decision.
The app will now remove the doppelganger files from your phone. Once this is finished you’ll see a box telling you how much space you saved from deleting the duplicates.
