Unlike before when smartphones usually carry just a few kb of storage space, many devices today are now coming with larger storage space with some even going as high as 250gb. But not everyone could afford those kinds of phones, so they settle for the budget ones with 8gb to 32gb memory. Still even the space in these devices tend to get quickly exhausted.

So solve this problem you need to back up your photos and videos which you need to know is the main culprit in hogging space. Google has provided us a useful app that can easily do just that. It called Google Photos.

The good thing about Google Photos is that you have the freedom to store countless amounts of photos and videos for free, but your images will be resized down to a maximum of 16 megapixels and your movies down to 1080p full HD with no 4k allowed. If you do want to store your files in full resolution, you'll have to pay for the service.

Once your files are backed up Google Photos can then delete the images from your device. You can still have access to your files from any device on which you are logged into your Google account.

Backing it up to Google Photos 

To back up your files, ensure that you have Google Photos app installed on your device. Some devices usually come twith it pre-installed. If you don't have it, then download and install the app.
When done, launch it.

Step 1
Sign up to Google accounts if you haven't already done that.

Step 2
Go to Settings, and then tap Backup & Sync. .

Step 3
When it's finished backing everything up, from the Google Photos app, head to the Settings and select "Free up space".

Step 4
Now follow the prompts to see how many pictures have been backup up to your Google account, what can be safely deleted from the local copies of your media and how much storage you'll save.
