One of the charms of Android is that you can freely customize your device and set things up the way you want.
One of the best ways to customize your smartphone is to install a launcher. Launchers gives you a near complete control over how your phone performs and allows you to make changes to the tons of Android themes and icons making your phone’s interface more colourful and user-friendly.
One very popular Android launcher used by millions of people is Nova launcher. Many say this app is the reason to buy an Android phone rather than an iPhone and it's easy to see why.
Nova launcher provides a trove of options for customizing a whole range of features: from app margins and sizes, to font colors and appearance, to your app drawer layout and animation effects, to screen gestures, to dock settings to unread badges; the list goes on.
So let's see about setting up the app. I will be providing just the basic. I intend provide a more detailed information in the future.
Setting up Nova Launcher
1. First, you need to download and install Nova Launcher on your Android device. Nova Launcher is available for Android in the Google Play Store. Just head to Google play and search for Nova Launcher. Or follow the download link below.

2. After the installation, open the Nova application and you'll be taken to the Welcome screen.
3. Tap on Next at the bottom right and you'll be taken to the next screen.
4. Now choose whether you prefer a light or a dark overall theme appearance. Then, tap on Next again.
5. Next, choose how you want your App drawer style to be. The choices are card style or immersive. Don't worry if you can't decide, just pick any as you can change it later. Tap next.
6. You will next have to choose the app drawer action style. The selections are Button or Swipe up, choose one.
7. Finally, tap on Apply and your settings for Nova Launcher will be saved. You will then be taken to the home screen that includes just three folders labeled Google, Create and Play, a Google Search Bar and a Gmail widget on the left home screen.
Now that you have set up the Nova app, you need to make it your default launcher if you want to use it. To do that:
1. Go into your phone setting by tapping on the gear-shaped icon.
2. Look for Phone or My Device and tap it.
3. Tap on Home button.
4. Lastly, checkmark on the Nova Launcher home button and Nova Launcher will become your default home screen launcher.
This is just the basic way of setting up your Nova app. In a future post, I'll show more on how you can use your Nova Launcher to customize your phone.
Nova Launcher can be got a Google Play Store for free. There’s a paid version called Nova Launcher Prime that is sold for $4.99. But try it out the free version first.
