So, you’ve downloaded and installed Nova Launcher on your Android smartphone or device. You've set it up. Now you want to use it to customize your phone, but you don't know how to go about it. Well you are in luck as I'm going to be explaining how you can do that.
I wrote an earlier article on how to set up Nova Launcher. Now I'm going to show in a series of articles how you can customize your smartphone using the app.
Using Nova Launcher To Customize Your Phone
1. Go to the bottom of your device’s home screen and tap the application drawer. Otherwise, swipe up from the lower part of you Android screen to open the app drawer if that was your preference during setup.
2. Now you can search apps or right under that you’ll see Nova settings. Go ahead and tap Nova Settings. This is where the plethora of variations you can use gets set by you.
In the Nova Settings, you have total control of your Android phone’s appearance from top to bottom. You’ll be able to customize;
DESKTOP
Layout –
*
Desktop Grid - Choose the grid size for your apps and widgets.
*
Icon Layout - Customize the size, color and labels of your icons.
*
Width and Height Padding - Choose if you want a small, medium or large padding. If you don't want any, then select None.
*
Persistent Search Bar - Turning this button will make the Google search on the home screen to display on other home screens when scrolling.
*Search Bar Style - Select the type of search bar you prefer on the home screen.
Scroll –
*Scroll Effects - Choose the kind of transition you want when scrolling between home screens.
*Wallpaper Scrolling - Choose if you want your wallpaper to scroll between home screens or not. You can also choose if you want the wallpaper to scroll in the opposite direction by selecting the Reverse button. The Force button allows wallpaper scrolling on devices that do not normally support it.
*Infinite Scroll - By turning this button on, you will be able scroll between home screens without hindrance.
Indicator –
*Page Indicator - At the bottom of your phone’s home screen there is a feature that helps you know on what page you are when you are scrolling between home screens. Choose the type of display you want for it.
*Indicator Color - Choose the color you want for the page indicator.
New Apps –
*Add Icon to Home Screen - Turn this button on if you want newly installed apps to be automatically added to the home screen.
*Note: Play Store settings - This setting is independent of Play Store. It recommends that you disable the Play Store "Add Icon to Home Screen" to prevent Play Store from adding apps to other launchers. This sometimes causes other launchers to display "No more room" error message during app installation. So tap the "Note: Play Store settings" and disable the "Add Icon to Home Screen".
Advanced –
*Widget Overlap - Turn this button on if you want to allow the resizing of widgets on top or underneath other desktop items.
*Overlap When Placing - When you turn on the "widget overlap" button, this feature opens which allows the overlapping of desktop items when dropping them into place.
*Lock Desktop – Turn on this feature to prevent any changes to your desktop.
*Show Shadow – Turn this feature on if you want the shadow effect at the top and bottom of the screen of your phone.
That brings to the end of part 1 on how customize your smartphone with Nova Launcher. Enjoy Nova Launcher and let us know your take on things. Leave us a comment below, thanks!
