Google Removes UC Browser From Play Store

Last week, Google raised a lot of eyebrows when it removed the popular mobile web browser app, UC Browser, from its app store for what it cite as their "misleading" promotional materials.

Google wasn't too happy with the app’s terms of service (ToS). According to Mike Ross, a developer who claims to work for UC Browser, the browser was “temporarily removed” from the Play Store for 30 days because it “mislead” users into installing it.

However, in a kind of twist, UC Web denied knowing Mike Rose. According to them, “The reason for the removal has nothing to do with alleged data security breach or malicious promotion. We would like to state that we have norecords of anyone named ‘Mike Ross’ claiming to be working for UC Browser, as mentioned in somereports. The person claiming to be working for UC Browser is in no way associated with the firm nor represent the views of the company. The allegations of misleading and malicious promotions by the said person are completely false and baseless.”

UC Browser is owned by a China-based Internet company UC Web, a subsidiary of the Alibaba Group, which has a huge presence in developing markets around the world.

The company has resubmitted their browser application for Google’s approval last week. So until the app gets approved and becomes available in the Play Store again, you can get it through direct download from its website. http://www.ucweb.com

You can still download the lightweight version UC Browser mini from the Play Store.
