Samsung Galaxy S8 Is The Most Best-selling Android Phone Of 2017

Samsung Galaxy S8

The Samsung Galaxy S8 officially became the most best selling Android smartphone in the world. This was revealed by research firm, Strategy Analytics.

The firm published a report that shows that the South Korean tech giant has shipped more than 10.2 million of its Galaxy S8 devices and took 3 percent of the global market share in the second quarter of 2017. Its Galaxy S8 Plus has over 9.0 million shipments and took 2 percent market share globally. The figures proves the massive popularity of the Samsung devices, and confirmed Samsung position as number one phone makers in the Android Market.
The closest Android-powered smartphone to the Galaxy S8 series is the Xiaomi Redmi 4A which is growing in popularity in Asia, especially China where it originates.

Despite this figures though, the Galaxy S8 is not the most best-selling selling phone, but only the best-selling "Android" smartphone. The one who presently owns that throne is Apple's iPhone 7. In fact, the Galaxy S8 is the third top seller behind iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus.

Despite being well-received by critics, the Galaxy S8 and S8 Plus failed to make a significant impact on the US smartphone market as the S8 and S8+ garnered just a combined share of 8.1% of sales. Whereas in the same period, the Galaxy S7 and S7 Edge achieved 8.8% of sales and the iPhone 7 and 7 Plus took 20.1%.

The Strategy Analytics report shows that Apple has shipped over 16.9 million iPhone 7 handsets and captured 5 percent of the market globally in the second quarter of 2017. And iPhone 7 Plus, with its bigger screen and higher pricing has shipped 15.1 million units and 4 percent market share worldwide

“Global smartphone shipments reached a robust 360.4 million units in Q2 2017. The top-five most popular models together accounted for 1 in 6 of all smartphones shipped worldwide during the quarter,” says the report.

It further adds that, "the iPhone 7 remains the world's most popular smartphone model overall, due to a compelling blend of user-friendly design, extensive supporting apps, and widespread retail presence for the device...Apple today accounts for two of the world’s top five smartphone models.”

The report is comes at a time when Samsung is about to launch the Galaxy Note 8 on August 23rd. Hopefully it would the interest for the upcoming device.
