Etisalat Changes Name to 9Mobile



The news making waves now is that Etisalat has changed its brand name to 9mobile. Clearly, this must mean that the discussion they were having with the brand owners concerning the use of the brand have been concluded.

Not long ago, news surfaced of Etisalat pulling out of Nigeria Telecom market and the company was given three weeks to change the brand name "Etisalat" to something else.

Discussion has been ongoing between Etisalat brand owners and Emerging Marketing Telecommunications Services Ltd (EMTS), the ones making use of the brand in the country, concerning the continue use of the brand name. But that seems to have been concluded with the announcement of the new name on Thursday.

Despite this new development, EMTS assured everyone that their internal operations will not be affected and the workers under them will not be retrenched.

However, many people think that the new name "9mobile" should have been "9jamobile", while others think that picking such a local name is not a good idea.
