Google Gives Free Android App Every Week

Have you heard? Google will be giving away a paid android app every week for free. Now before you start you shouting hurray, you need to know that this offer is only available for those living in the USA and its limited as the app will revert back to its original price at the end of the week. Also the promo is running as a test for 4 weeks.

The “Free App of the Week” can be located on the Apps page of the Google Play Store.

Last week, Ultimate Guitar Tabs & Chords was given away gratis, but has now reverted to its usual price of $2.99. This week, a card trading, battle game called Card Wars — Adventure Time is being given away for free, but should revert back to its usual price of $2.99 at the end of this week.

Apple were the first to come up with this idea some years ago, which helped to boost the popularity of the apps in their store. Now Google wants to imitate them with the “Free App of the Week” promo.

Why The Gratis?

There are countless free apps available on Google Play Store, and many of them are really great and may even be worth their price tag. But there are others that easily justify being paid apps but don’t always get the attention they deserve. What better way to promote them than give them away for free for a limited period?

Is This A Dumb Move Or Smart Move?

It’s not dumb, it’s really a smart play as Google along with the app developers will benefit mightily. When Android users get a paid app for free for a week, developers and their apps get enviable promotion on the Play Store while Google gets millions of new users on their store to rake in more revenue.

However, this isn’t the first time Google has given out free apps for free. Back in 2015, they actually ran a “Free App of the Week” promo. But for some reason, they decided to end it. Now the promo is back with a broader perspective. This is certainly good news for every android lovers, especially the game addicts, but we hope this new attempt on Google’s part will last and spread to other countries.
