Facebook To Stop Supporting Messenger On Older Android, iOS And Windows

Facebook is at it again! The Californian social networking giant with over a billion user, have announced that after today, March 31, they will stop supporting their Messenger app on Older OS versions of Android, iOS and Window Devices.
The tech company also announced that users will no longer have access to older version of the Messenger app.
Facebook have been making news the past few months, with some being controversial, especially the case involving Snapchat.
According to the company, one of the ways they can “continue to improve is by consistently introducing rich features. Using older versions of apps means that experiences won’t work well or sometimes not at all."
The company urged people “who are using older versions to upgrade so they can enjoy more of the delightful features of Messenger.”
So what all this means is that if your device is still running on an older version of an operating system (OS) or still runs an older Messenger app, you either upgrade now or change device before April if you want to retain the service.
Devices Set To Lose Messenger
Devices that will lose access to Messenger app are Android devices running on Gingerbread 2.3 or older, Apple devices running on iOS version 7 or older and Windows devices, both phone and desktop PC, running version 8.1 and older.
Android users can still access Messenger by either downloading the Facebook Lite/Messenger Lite app or access Facebook via a browser.
Only devices running Ice Cream Sandwich and later will receive the support of the Messenger app.
As for Apple users, they too can access Messenger via a browser. Only iOS 8 and above will be supporting the Messenger app.
Users of Windows can either upgrade their OS or change their devices to retain service.
Messenger App That Will Lose Support
Android devices running Facebook v55 released on November 15, 2015, and earlier will no longer be supported. As will devices running Messenger v10 released on August 14, 2014, and earlier.
Apple devices running Facebook for iOS released on October 10, 2011, and earlier will lose support. Messenger v8, released on July 14, 2014, and earlier will also lose support.
Conclusion
While it makes sense to have the latest operating system supporting your device, it’s also imperative to constantly keep your app updated in order to enjoy the new features as well as enjoy continued support.
If that is not possible, you can still access Messenger via Facebook on a browser.
