10 Ways To Boost The Internet Speed Of Your Android Smartphone

Does your phone act sluggish whenever you try to go through various websites or download apps and other contents? There are number reasons for this.

Here I’ve compiled a list of 10 ways you may be able to boost the internet  speed of your android device that will make surfing the web more convenient and efficient.

1. Clear The Cache – One possible reason for your device’s sluggish performance is that the cache memory is full. When your cache memory is full it slows down your phone and internet speed. So clearing the cache from time to time will be a wise thing to do.

Many android devices, especially those running on android 6 or higher versions, provide options at the setting for clearing cache. But they are not often effective. You would do better to avail yourself with some good third-party apps that can help you to achieve this more quickly and efficiently. One such app is CCleaner which can be gotten free from Google play store.

2. Get Rid Of Useless Apps – You may probably have a huge collection of apps on your device which to some extent might seem cool. But how often do you use them all?

If a large number of apps are opened and running at the same time, your phone’s performance could be adversely affected. Many phones may be able to handle about 10 opened apps at the same time. But what if 30 were opened and running at a time? Even the most powerful android device would feel the heat.

If you have too many apps that you rarely use or that you deem to be unimportant, could you uninstall them? Removing such unnecessary apps will free up space in the cache and make internet connection conveniently faster.

Moreover, many apps tend to run in the background even when they are not in use. And most times, the user may not even be aware that the apps were running. This not only makes internet data connection slower, but drains battery power and overheats a phone. A simple solution for this is to put them to sleep using such effective apps like Greenify or Clean Master.

3. Use A Faster Web Browser – Without a doubt, having a web browser is very important in accessing pages online, but having a faster one makes it more convenient.

There are many good browsers out there that you can use for fast browsing. Among them are Puffin, Opera, UC Browser, Chrome.

I don’t know about you, but I preferred Puffin for its fast internet browsing experience and ease of use which are even more than I can say for the others I listed. That’s just my opinion though. Uc browser is also an ideal choice.

4. Connect To 3G Or 4G Network – If your phone is running on GSM and 2G network, then my friend you can’t be expecting a fast internet access. You should be on 3G or 4G network which has faster internet speed.

Some devices automatically turn off their 3G services. If yours is one of them, then put it back on. Go to your phone Settings and choose 3G or 4G as your preferred network connection.

5. Enable Text Only Mode On Your Browser – Some browsers like Operamini and UC Browser have an option in their setting that make it possible to display only text without u images on internet pages while surfing the web. This can really make surfing a bit more convenient and faster, provided if you have no need for images.

Go the browser setting and you will see an option to enable the text only mode. On uc browser settings, tap on image quality and a pop-up will appear for you to enable text only mode. For your Chrome browser you can use Text Mode browser extension to disable images.

6. Update Your Android – At times the sluggish performance of a phone may be due to newer apps running on older version of an Android operating system (OS). Since apps are constantly updated in order to accommodate newer Android versions, the older versions struggle to keep up, resulting in a slow performance.

When an updated version of your android arrives, don’t hesitate to download and install it on your device.

However, I must make note that not all android devices are built to provide update for their OS. So I recommend that when you decide to buy a new phone, you should pick one that is already running with a newer version and which allows update.

7. Reduce Animation Time – Most animation on phones that take long in running may make a phone appear smoother. But if the phone’s performance is already flagging, such animation will only make it worse. To improve it, you’ll need to reduce the length of animation time or disable it altogether.

Every android device comes with a set of options that make it possible for users to deal with to achieve this.

Go to your phone’s setting and tap on “About Phone”. Build number and tap on it seven times until the Developer Mode is activated and shows your phone setting page. In Developer options, go to Drawing and look for “Window Animation Scale, Transition Animation Scale, and Animation Duration.” You would want to disable them one by one by setting their numbers to zero. The result of all these will be immediately obvious as the internet will start connecting faster, apps will start opening quickly and games will start running smoothly.

8. Check The UI – Custom user interfaces (UI) are more often preferred to the plain android’s as they offer more features and customization options. However, many of these UIs take a lot of resources and require phones with powerful processors and more RAM (2GB or more) to run.

If your phone has an inferior processor and a lower RAM than the required UI, your device may perform poorly.

9. Increase Internal Storage – A phone’s internet speed performance could also be affected by the internal storage. If your device accepts microSD card, then constantly move your phone’s internal data into it to free up space and give your internal device ample room to handle to heavy Internet files. Alternatively, you could move data to a cloud storage like Google Drive or Dropbox, or just delete them altogether.

10. Use Android apps to increase internet speed – Oh yes, there are various Android apps available that are specifically created to enhance the internet speed in Android phones and tablets. Just browse through Google App store and you would find some that can boost your internet speed, such as, Internet Booster & Optimizer, Internet Booster, Network Speed Booster, Internet Booster Xtreme.

Note: Some of these apps only work on rooted devices. So he sure to do research before downloading. I'll soon compile a list of some of the best internet speed boosters available. Keep a date.

I hope this info will help you enjoy faster internet. Feel free to provide your opinions through the comments. And don’t forget to share this post.
