In September, Apple decided to end support for 32-bit apps in its iOS 11 in favour of 64-bit apps. Now Google has announced that they too will be requiring all Android apps to be built in a 64-bit framework in the future. Fortunately for developers and users, they have until August of 2019 to make the switch. After that, all 32-bit apps will no longer receive support from Google. Google thinks that this move will be an improvement for the platform's security performance as a whole. They explained that apps using "64-bit code typically offers significantly better performance, with additional registers and new instructions."
